A City We Call Home

UMBC’s Nicole King and Kate Drabinski, as well as UMBC’s Joshua Clark Davis, have published Baltimore Revisited: Stories of Inequality and Resistance in a U.S. City. The intention of these essays is to use the consequences of past actions in history to create a better tomorrow. To get this message across, the book is written in different formats including interviews, analysis of archival research, poetry, and essays.

UMBC as a Model University

The Empowered University delves into how UMBC’s Shared Leadership, Culture Change, and Academic Success make the university a national model for others. Creating a healthy and supportive campus culture leads to a boost in student success. Acquiring this as well as acknowledging an inevitable culture change can lead to an “unabashedly aspirational” campus, as President Hrabowski says.

What Will Inspire Your Research?

Fernando Tormos-Aponte, Emily Yoon Perez, and Blake Francis, are excited to begin their research as Postdoctoral Fellows in UMBC’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS). These students have a diverse set of research topics, yet what brings them together is their passion and dedication to pursuing their research.

Speaking for Students Across Maryland

Jordan Troutman was recently named the student commissioner for the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). Troutman is a computer science and mathematics major aiming to build a bridge between technology and policy in order to improve society. As student commissioner, he looks forward to learning more about issues regarding higher education institutions and making a positive difference.
